collaboration space

recently decided to get a project space set up in an anytype channel for when the game will need collaboration on art and stuff down the line. i'd had a poke around anytype a year or two ago and didn't use it much but it's had a few updates since then and seems to be good for collaboration. i especially like the chats feature (and obviously the whole "local-first" philosophy is really good). just wish there was a one-off purchase option, even if it was mega-expensive, but that's an impossible ask from most software devs these days lol.

annoyingly i discovered that you can only have 3 editors in one channel (but unlimited people without editing power) if you're on a free account, which i couldn't find mention of anywhere until i added lucid, the artist, into the channel to test it out. sneaky. will make things a bit frustrating when it comes time for people to use it as i mainly wanted it to keep track of everyone's task in a kanban, but guess we'll just have to delegate that out.

i also created an are.na channel for the game, it's pretty bare bones for now but i have a whole list of movies i want to watch for inspiration, so those will probably go in there too. i need to get onto reading more about chinese folklore and mythology as i want to incorporate those elements into the fantasy world of the game too. the main characters are chinese, but also i just think learning about other cultures is cool so may as well put that info to use somewhere. i'll make a reading list in future that outlines all the stuff i used for inspiration/research bcuz i really like when other artists do that.

in terms of actual development i've had more of a go in sprouty and it seems like it'll be good enough for what i want to do. and i think i've finally decided on the gameplay i want, which seems silly to put it in this late but i'm more of a writer than a game designer. yes some books on game design are also on the reading list... now to just slowly work on building everything up.

also i'm doing away with the use of tags on this blog cuz they never really made any sense in the first place.
